Continuation

Range

NeutralReliability: Medium

Also called · box, rectangle, sideways

Price moves between flat support and flat resistance.

Range shape
The skeleton with the noise removed. Real charts are messier.

How to spot it

  • Highs and lows are each close to horizontal
  • Both have been touched at least twice

Why this shape forms

The same two prices keep capping and holding. Both sides are using those levels as their reference.

Where it actually means something

It can be a rest inside a trend or the place a trend ends. The box itself says nothing about which.

What else to check

Either side needs a close beyond it with volume. Moves inside the box are normal and should not be traded as signals.

This means you're wrong

A close outside the range, either side.

The mistake beginners make

Entering in the middle of the box. That's the worst risk/reward — you take it at the edges.

Easy to confuse with

Poking above the top and snapping back is extremely common. That is the false breakout, and the range edge is where it happens most.
