Candlestick

Evening Star

BearishReliability: Medium

Also called · evening doji star

The mirror of the morning star. A three-candle bearish reversal at a high.

Evening Star shape
The skeleton with the noise removed. Real charts are messier.

How to spot it

  • Long bullish → small body → long bearish

Why this shape forms

A large up candle, a small one, then a large down candle. The advance stalled in the middle and reversed on the third.

Where it actually means something

It belongs near the high of an uptrend. The same shape early in a move is just a pullback.

What else to check

The third candle should give back at least half the first candle body. Volume arriving on the third makes it clearer.

This means you're wrong

If the third bearish candle can't break half of the first bullish one, the signal is weak.

The mistake beginners make

Ignoring volume. A version that prints without force rarely works.

Easy to confuse with

It is the morning star with the direction flipped, and the judging criteria are identical, including the size of the middle candle.
