Ascending Triangle
BullishReliability: HighAlso called · rising triangle
Lows keep rising beneath a flat resistance line.
How to spot it
- The highs are capped at one level
- The lows keep stepping up
- The range narrows and volume declines
Why this shape forms
The top keeps stalling at one price while the lows keep rising. Sellers are anchored to a single number and buyers keep paying more.
Where it actually means something
Common as a pause inside an uptrend. The same shape in the middle of a downtrend is far less reliable.
What else to check
A close through the flat resistance with expanding volume. Breaks around two-thirds of the way into the coil tend to behave better than ones at the apex.
This means you're wrong
A downside break of the rising trendline (the line of lows).
The mistake beginners make
Assuming it "has to" break upwards. Direction is only confirmed by the break.
Easy to confuse with
If the lows are flat rather than rising it is a range, not a triangle. Actually drawing both lines settles it immediately.
